NAJIA MEHADJI

ENROULEMENT

 

À sa manière, Najia Mehadji travaille à révéler la beauté de la lumière sur des supports bruts de toile et de papier en y déployant en éventail mobile ses structures graphico-chromatiques. En effets, si le tracé de l’artiste consiste en un geste concis, il sait se déplacer jusqu’à constituer un rayonnement en continuel épanouissement, un réseau vivant et générateur de volumes flottants dans l’espace. De volumes virtuels que traversent des ondes dynamiques, les modulant entre contraction et dilatation, les pliant et les dépliant en zones rythmées concaves et convexes qui entraînent notre regard à se mouvoir entre leurs pleins et leurs creux, leurs silhouettes et leurs interstices… L’acte de dessiner, chez elle, est ainsi un élan vital qui sillonne le plan de la toile qu’il étoile entre le bi et le tridimensionnel jusqu’à y faire épanouir un rayonnement dont la visée fondamentale est la révélation de la lumière.

ENROULEMENT

 

In her own way, Mehadji seeks to reveal the beauty of light on the raw support of canvas and paper, unfolding her graphic and chromatic structures in a mobile fan. Indeed, although the artist’s marks consist of concise gestures, they constantly shift until they coalesce into a a steadily blossoming, radiant effect, a living and generative network of volumes floating in space. Dynamic waves traverse these virtual volumes, modulating them through contraction ad dilation, folding and unfolding in concave and convex zones, leading the eye back and forth between solids and voids, silhouettes and gaps. The act of drawing, for Mehadji, is thus a vital drive that criss-crosses the surface of the canvas, crazing it in two and three dimensions until there bursts forth a radiance whose fundamental goal is the revelation of light.
