NAJIA MEHADJI

SUITE GOYESQUE - LES DÉSASTRES DE LA GUERRE

 

Dans le travail de Najia Mehadji, on retrouve la violence des corps fantômes de Goya, mais transposée par le négatif et l’agrandissement d’un détail. Non plus (Tampoco) un viol à peine perceptible. lls en profitent (Se aprovechan). Trois fusils à droite, un corps esquissé à gauche, et la fleur du meurtre est au sens strict fleur du désastre. Car le coeur même d’une fleur est occupé par un homme fusillé : Il n’y a pas de remède (No hay remedio). Grâce au virtuel, qui autorise la légèreté, les fluidités et l’inframince, ces fleurs de la violence, plus indéterminées et plus flottantes que d’autres, explorent un paradoxe évident : Goya en ombre blanche et en traits plissés et surimprimés, les fleurs en un « pop » atténué mais pour le moins réel, dans ce que m’évoquent les immenses Shadows de Warhol, où la série fait alterner couleurs pop et ombres en une variation infinie.

WAR DESASTERS

 

Mehadji’s work also contains the violence of these ghostly bodies, although here transposed by being in negative and greatly enlarged. No longer (tampoco) a scarcely perceptible rape, they take advantage of it (se aprovechan). Three guns on the right and a sketchy body on the left turn the flower of murder into, sensu stricto, the flower of disaster. Because the very heart of a flower is occupied by a man who has been shot—there can be no remedy (No hay remedio).

Thanks to virtual techniques that allow lightness, fluidity, and infra-thinness, the flowers of violence - more indeterminate, more floating than the others - explore an obvious paradox: Goya in white shadows and creased, superimposed lines, the flowers in an attenuated yet nevertheless real “Pop” idiom. They bring to mind Warhol’s huge Shadows series where Pop colors and shadows alternate in infinite variation.
